Shad Moss - better known by his rap name Bow Wow - always has seemed to find himself in the news or getting trolled online for a number of different things. Whether it's for pretending to flex on the gram ( who doesn't remember the Bow Wow challenge?) or allegedly getting into a fight with "Mask Off" rapper Future backstage at Jay-Z's 4:44 tour, it seems like he's always getting called out for something. It's unfortunate that Moss seems to be making the news for these, um, less-than-flattering stories over the past few years. He's become a target for online fodder, sometimes allowing people to forget that he's accomplished a great deal in his career.
The 31-year-old rapper has been in the game for quite some time; he released his first album Beware of Dog back in 2000 at the age of thirteen. The album itself is certified Platinum two times over and includes features from his mentors Jermaine Dupri and Snoop Dogg. Moss also starred in multiple feature films during his teenage years, such as Like Mike which shot him into stardom.
With six solo albums under his belt, Moss is gearing up to release a new project. It's exciting to see what Moss will do next, but he decided to address some of the controversies he's faced recently during an interview with The Breakfast Club before releasing the project. One of the controversies he opened up about was whether his claim that he was signed to Death Row Records during it's heyday was actually true. Moss had posted a photo on the fan-made photo on Twitter with his face photoshopped into a picture of all the artists on Death Row records captioning it "where it all started." His mentions were immediately flooded by fans who believed he was lying about being signed to the infamous record company.
Moss addressed the situation, telling DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlamagne Tha God that he was actually discovered by Snoop. According to Moss, Snoop then introduced a young Bow Wow to Jermaine Dupree when Dr. Dre and Tupac departed the record label. Dupree, of course, went on to mentor the young rapper. "I wasn't feeling that s***, I didn't understand that," Moss said of his transition from working with Snoop to Dupree. "I wanted to ride out with Dogg, he found me, he discovered me, I moved to LA spent hella time out there, and once he dipped it was over."
Suge Knight also played a part in Bow Wow's come up. The head of the record label contacted Moss' mother, asking her to bring Moss to the offices the next day. When they arrived, Knight presented him with his first chain and welcomed him to the label. The chain itself, according to Moss, was a Dogg Pound chain. Moss claims that he was actually an original member of Dogg Pound, which rose to fame with Kurupt and Daz Dillinger as its only members.
Moss was only 6-years-old during his time with Death Row, which obviously had an influence on him. He told a few other stories from his time with the label, saying he was "cursing like a mutherf*****" back then, and that Kurupt wrote all his rhymes. No one from the former label has come out to confirm Moss' claims, but his stories seem to confirm that he was signed back in the '90's.
