Michael Mosley's Lawyer Claims Self-Defense In Fatal Nashville Stabbings

Michael Mosley, the man accused of killing Clayton Beathard and Paul Trapeni III in Nashville last Saturday morning (December 21), acted in self-defense, according to his lawyer.

According to the Tennessean, defense attorney, Justin Johnson who's representing the 23-year-old, says his conclusion is based on preliminary evidence available in the case as well as Mosley's feelings on the matter.

"I believe that we'll be able to show that Mr. Mosley acted in self defense," Johnson tells the newspaper.

Additionally he shares in an interview that his client is sorry for the incident. "He is truly remorseful and regretful and sorry that this happened to every family that's involved here," Johnson says, "but he wants everyone to wait to see the evidence as it comes out."

Mosley has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide and one attempted homicide in connection to the stabbing of 22-year-old Beathard, 21-year-old Trapeni and a third victim who remains unidentified. On Wednesday (December 25), Mosley was arrested and is being held without bond in Davidson County.

Mosely's defense recognizes that the evidence available at the time is limited however Johnson points out in the interview that more evidence is expected to be released during a preliminary hearing on January 7, 2020.

Police believe a dispute began over "an unwanted advancement made by a man toward a woman" inside the downtown Nashville bar. At around 3 a.m., the argument turned violent when those involved decided to take things outside.

All three victims were graduates of Battle Ground Academy, an independent K-12 college preparatory school in Franklin. Beathard was the son of country music songwriter Casey Beathard and brother of NFL quarterback C.J. Beathard of the San Francisco 49ers and country singer Tucker Beathard.

Funeral services for both Beathard and Trapeni will be on Saturday.
