Cara Delevingne On Her Sexuality: 'I Never Thought I Needed To Come Out'

Cara Delevingne has rarely been shy about her sexuality. She has candidly spoken about her sexual orientation on multiple occasions and has dated a variety of people for almost a decade.

In a new interview with Variety, Delevingne, who has identified as sexually fluid, opened up with the publication about her sexuality and what Pride means to her. As it turns out, she now identifies as Pansexual — meaning her attraction towards others is not limited by biological sex, gender, or gender identity.

“I always will remain, I think, pansexual,” she said. “However one defines themselves, whether it’s ‘they’ or ‘he’ or ‘she,’ I fall in love with the person — and that’s that. I’m attracted to the person.” (Psst, Cara… call me).

The Carnival Row actress goes on to say that she's always been true to herself and never wanted to hide who she was.“I never thought I needed to come out,” she explained. “It was just kind of like, ‘This is who I am. Just so you know.’”

She also explains in the interview at the beginning of her career she was encouraged to have a beard (a person of the opposite gender or sex who pretends to be romantically involved with her).

In the spirit of Pride, Delevingne discussed what the word means to her, especially now that after years of hiding who she was, she is unapologetically herself.

“Pride to me is a sense of something that I never really had as a kid. A sense of pride is like a sense of belonging, a family outside your family, a place where you don’t have to apologize or feel ashamed,” she said. “Once I could talk about my sexuality freely, I wasn’t hiding anything anymore. And the person I hid it from the most was myself.”

Fans can also check out Delevingne's Pride-themed clothing line for Puma. A portion of the proceeds will be benefiting LGBTQ+ foundations.
