Tim McGraw shared a throwback video on Instagram on Monday morning (December 23), reminiscing on his rendition of “Blue Christmas.”
McGraw said he “did this cover backstage with the band a few years back,” and it’s “one of my favorites to sing during the holidays. Music legend Elvis Presley recorded “Blue Christmas” in the late 1950s. The classic appears on Presley’s 12-track Elvis’ Christmas Album record, along with “Santa Claus Is Back In Town,” “White Christmas,” “Here Comes Santa Claus” and more.
“I'll have a blue Christmas without you/ I’ll be so blue just thinking about you/ Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree/ Won't be the same dear, if you're not here with me”
Many country artists have released holiday music over the years, including original songs and their own covers of Christmas classics. Megan Moroney, for example, released her version of “Blue Christmas” on an EP this year (embracing the signature color of her sophomore album, Am I Okay?). Dan + Shay delivered a massive double album after fans requested holiday music from the duo for about 10 years. Gabby Barrett unveiled her first-ever Christmas album after seeking input from her fans to create the track list. Find some of the recent holiday music released by country artists here.
