Chet Hanks shared how he recruited his father, legendary actor Tom Hanks, to make an appearance in his Forrest Gump-inspired music video, “You Better Run.”
Chet, half of Something Out West with duo partner Drew Arthur, caught up with iHeartCountry at the 2025 iHeartCountry festival presented by Capital One. The show returned for its 12th year on Saturday night (May 3) at Mooday Center in Austin, Texas.
“I was like, ‘hey, I got this crazy idea.’ I told him, and I’m like, ‘would you do it?’” Chet remembered of the conversation he shared with his father, who shares the Something Out West star with his wife, actress and singer Rita Wilson. “And I didn’t know if he would. But he was like, ‘if that’s what you wanna do, then I’ll do it.’”
Chet and Arthur launched Something Out West in California, where the duo “became roommates at a pivotal time — both embarking on a journey to sobriety that sparked a deep friendship and creative partnership,” Something Out West’s website reads of the band’s story. “Their move to Nashville refined their sound, blending distinctive vocals, timeless storytelling, and contemporary influences that honor the genre’s roots while pushing it forward.”
