Former NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma was arrested for driving with a suspended license, NFL reporter Andy Slater reported on Wednesday (June 4).
Vilma, 43, who just completed his fifth season calling games for FOX Sports, was reportedly stopped by police because his tag was expired.
"SLATER SCOOP: Former Miami Hurricanes star Jonathan Vilma was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Miami for driving with a suspended license, sources tell me. He was initially stopped because his tag was expired," Slater wrote on his X account.
Vilma was selected by the New York Jets at No. 12 overall in the 2004 NFL Draft and was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year during his first season, as well as a Pro Bowler and the NFL leader in solo and combined tackles in 2005. The former University of Miami standout spent the last six years of his playing career with the New Orleans Saints, which included winning Super Bowl XLIV and being selected as a Pro Bowler in 2009 and 2010, having been inducted into the franchise's Hall of Fame in 2017.
Vilma was also a BCS national champion, a First-team All-American in 2003 and a three-time First-team All-Big East selection (2001, 2002, 2003) during his collegiate career at Miami and is a candidate for the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame.
