After three years of being homeless, a single mother and her four kids now have a new home and it was fully furnished and decorated, thanks to local nonprofit Humble Design. Lamanda Brown of Detroit, Michigan and her kids are now happily living in public housing and they’re thrilled to have a space to call their own.
The family of five has been living between relatives’ homes and shelters, but after being told by the shelter they had to find new housing, their caseworker was able to find permanent housing for them. Humble Design works with local shelters and helps transform public housing into fully furnished homes for families transitioning out of shelters.
Now this mom and her four little ones are enjoying their stocked kitchen, living room, and bedrooms and settling into their new home. "There were times I wanted to give up," Brown explains. "But I kept my composure and moved on to the next situation. I had to do it for my babies."
