The Tree From 'The Shawshank Redemption' Is Gone

In my opinion, 'The Shawshank Redemption' is one of the all-time Must-See movies. It's literally on my list of Yearly Viewings.

If you remember the end of the movie, Andy described to Red a tree; the tree held a significant memory for Andy and thus, this is where he left the note for Red.

Turns out the tree is (or rather was) in a field in Mansfield, Ohio. The oak was over 200 years old and had been damaged by multiple storms over the years. As of 2011, the center was beginning to rot out.

The owner finally cut it away so he could farm the land, and says he's going to use the wood to make a table or bench.

If you don't remember, or have lived under a rock and don't know about the tree scenes, check it out below.
