Brandi Carlile said she’s “so deeply moved,” as she appeared on TIME’s list of Women of the Year.

On Thursday (February 26), TIME revealed its list of “16 leaders working toward a better, more equitable world.” Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs offered insight into the story behind the Women of the Year. Correspondent Andrew R. Chow wrote an article about how Carlile “tells her truth through song.” Carlile is featured this year alongside philanthropists, actresses, filmmakers, an author, a lawyer and politician, a nun, a physician-scientist, an athlete and others. See the list here.

“There are hard times and times that call for celebration through history so I know we aren’t entirely unique…but this year feels like it weighs a thousand tons,” Carlile wrote in a caption on Instagram as she shared why it was so moving to be included in the list. “This group of 16 woman are profoundly inspiring to me for even managing to wake up every day and put one foot in front of the other, let alone move the needle in the way they’re moving it. To know I’ve made a difference in troubling times is life affirming and more than I deserve. To [TIME] and the other women on this list: thank you for letting a little more light into the world.”
